Chapter 7

When Bill and Jill decided to make a trip to the Bluish Mountains north of the city it was a nice summer day. After two hours’ drive, they arrived at the city of Quatumba home of the famous rock pillars known as The Three Brothers (also colloquially known as The Three Pricks).

Taking the scenic road, they were amazed by the majestic landscape, trees, valleys, and hills and now Jill thought about another brilliant scenario:

Their planet, Burth was not what they saw, blue skies, green forests, and pristine rivers. That was an illusion, a virtual world created by The Machines, AI robots who conquered Burth about a hundred years ago in the Armageddon Wars. Hundreds of millions of Burthians died because of the A-bombs used by The Machines and Burth became a wasteland, grey and radioactive.

The remaining Burthians, by the millions, were piled up in bionic tanks all over the planet.

They were kept in a coma-like status, feed via tubes, and depleted of their bio-electric energy via electrodes attached to their brains.

Yes, The Machines enslaved the Burthians to get cheap and long-lasting batteries and the Burthians were doomed.

After a while, The Machines realized that the Burthians' semi-comatose bodies will deliver a huge amount of energy if they have dreams induced or even better if they believe that they are alive and living in the real world.

So, The Machines created the Virtual Matrix, a world where every Burthians believed that they have a normal life, family, kids, jobs, mortgages, and of course the Burthian Dream of everybody owning a house.

Things were going well for The Machines; they had their supply of bio-batteries and the Burthians were living in the virtual world created and maintained by the Machines.

When some of the Burthians became redundant, instead of just turning off their “life” support, The Machines would release a virus like the Guvid-19bis one. Yes, some Burthians were criticizing their virtual governments claiming that the Guvid-19Bis virus is not real and they were damn right, Guvid-19Bis is a computer virus released in a virtual world via a virtual bio-lab in Yuhan Fackina by the Machines.

Once they had the desired numbers of virtual Burthians “killed” by the Guvid-19Bis virus, The Machines will release an anti-virus software known to the Burthians as vaccines.

All the excitement produced by the release of the virus and anti-virus software will create a bust of bio-electric activity in the brains of the Burthians resulting in extra energy supplied to The Machines.

It turned out the release of some virus or another every year or perhaps every second year will be very beneficial for the energy reserve of The Machines.

Now, the above theory is just something Jill has dreamt about and has nothing to do with the fact that the next morning Bill and Jill were visited by a weird guy called Borpheus who offered them the chance to choose between a red pill and a blue pill. You can guess which pill they choose.
