Chapter 10

As usual, Bill and Jill came up with another fictional conspiracy theory based on the amount of Shiraz they drank that evening:

For the past 50 years, the weather on Burth was having sudden changes from very hot periods of time to very cold ones.

The politicians/scientists came up with names for the weather phenomenon like global warming (which was contradicted by the very cold phases) and climate change (the climate was changing on Burth since the beginning of time!).

Somebody must be blamed for the weather changes and the politicians/scientists blamed everything on the Burthians activities, industrial, agricultural, deforestation, and cow farts.

But the problem was that the rich and famous ones would not give up their lifestyle, their individual carbon footprint was huge despite the claims that they use electric cars (making the car batteries was a huge source of pollution) and eating synthetic meat (which was about 500 dollars per kilo and consumed a huge amount of energy to produce it).

The new “species” of eco-warriors appeared: rich and famous, politicians, some scientists, and some “innocent” bystanders who were pushed in front to represent the angry average people.

One of the eco-warriors was Breta, the “environmentalist”, a disillusioned teenager who became a “hero” on Burth. There were several statues of Breta erected on university campuses across Burth. Modern technology was used and every time somebody was getting in proximity (less than 1.5 m) with one of the statues, an angry voice will shout: ‘How dare you?’

Some eco-warriors developed a new theory regarding the pollution created by the Burthians and to blame was the overpopulation of Burth.

There were early attempts to control the population numbers based on the Neo-Balthusian theory, some countries introducing the “one child per family” policy, others came with the forced sterilization policy.

The new eco-warriors realized that the Neo-Balthusian methods were not working properly and so, the pandemic by virus policy was created and implemented.

Like in the previous scenarios, the Guvid-19Bis virus was released via a leak at a bio-lab in Yuhan, Fackina. It became a pandemic in no time, with many millions of Burthians infected and several million dead.

Of course, the vaccines were available shortly (maybe too quick some people mentioned!) because the Burthians Lords did not want an extension event, just controlling the numbers, until the next pandemic will strike. And mark my words, it will strike!
